3E stands for "Enjoy English through Evangelism". It is an English outreach that is designed to introduce Taiwanese people of all ages to the basic doctrines of Christianity using conversational English.
3E has been running for over four years now, but as of the Fall of 2009, we changed to a new format, which we call "3E ALPHA". This means that we are now running the popular 10-week ALPHA Course with English learning components interwoven throughout each meeting.
For many of our new friends that take this course, 3E is their first step in beginning a lifelong discipleship journey. During the course, we see God working in the hearts of our new friends. Many of them begin a relationship with Jesus Christ through relationships with Taiwanese and Western co-workers at 3E. A natural step in this process is beginning to attend a Chinese-speaking small group at our Taiwanese church, Truth Church in Taipei. |
The Purpose of 3E ALPHA
3E ALPHA acts as a strategic gateway for unchurched Taiwanese people to come into first contact with Christians, and learn firsthand about our faith. By getting to know the basic beliefs of Christianity, and by building relationships with believers they get to know our faith better, and become more familiar with Truth Church. Over time, many begin a new life with Christ because of their relationships with co-workers in 3E ALPHA.
Taiwanese people are very interested in learning English, which is something we use to share the Gospel. We attract new friends by providing a fun English-learning environment, while introducing them to different facets of our faith. During the week, English-speaking and Chinese-speaking co-workers work together to build relationships with our new friends. As the course goes on, we find that the Lord has been opening the hearts of many of our new friends, so that they become increasingly interested in the Gospel. As the course comes to an end, our Chinese co-workers invite any interested seekers or new believers to their Chinese small groups (or an advanced course) for further mentoring and discipleship. |
