What About the Church?Bilingual ALPHA Course.
Our main ministry at Truth Church is our Bilingual ALPHA Course. It is a bilingual (Mandarin Chinese / English) outreach that is designed to introduce Taiwanese people of all ages to the basic doctrines of Christianity using conversational English.
We began running this evangelistic course in the Fall of 2009, and have seen the Lord bring many Taiwanese people into the Kingdom ever since. The course is unique in that it fuses the content of the successful and 10-week ALPHA Course with English learning components interwoven throughout each interactive Friday-night gathering.
For many of our new friends that take this course, Bilingual ALPHA is their first step in beginning a lifelong discipleship journey. During the 10-week course, we can clearly observe God working in the hearts of our new friends. Many of them begin a relationship with Jesus Christ through relationships with Taiwanese and Western co-workers at ALPHA. A natural step in this process is beginning to attend a Chinese-speaking cell group at our Taiwanese church, Truth Church in Taipei. |
The Purpose of Bilingual ALPHA
Bilingual ALPHA acts as a strategic gateway for unchurched Taiwanese people to come into first contact with Christians, and learn firsthand about our faith. By getting to know the basic beliefs of Christianity, and by building relationships with believers they get to know Jesus better, and become more familiar with Truth Church. Over time, many begin a new life with Christ because of their relationships with Christian co-workers in ALPHA.
Taiwanese people are very interested in learning English, which is something we use to share the Gospel. By offering a fun, English-learning environment, ALPHA is a non-confrontational way of introducing our friends to different facets of our faith. During the week, there are lots of chances for us ALPHA co-workers to build relationships with our new friends. As the course goes on, we find that the Lord has been opening the hearts of many of our new friends, who become increasingly interested in the Gospel. As the course comes to an end after 11 weeks, we invite any interested seekers or new believers to begin attending Chinese small groups for further fellowship and discipleship. |
