A New Year has begun here in Taiwan, and so has the new season of 3E Alpha - a 12-week evangelistic course which aims to explain the fundamentals of Christianity to non-believers. To give them an idea of what lies in store, seeker and co-workers were invited to a pre-Alpha outing on Saturday to a large tea-farm outside Taipei. The weather forecasters predicted rain, but God answered our prayers and we woke up that morning to glorious sunshine, which continued throughout the day - there was barely a cloud in sight!
When we arrived at the farm we were taken to a large grassy space where we played a number of introductory games. My personal favourite was "identity-swap", which involved getting to know another person and then introducing yourself as that person to somebody else. This cycle was repeated about seven times, by which time everyone was throroughly confused!
This was followed by a barbeque in which we had a cha lot of funance to chat properly to the other people who'd come on the trip. It was so good to see brothers and sisters, who had themselves become Christians through the Alpha course, bringing their friends along to discover Christ for themselves!
The afternoon was spent doing various tea-related activities. Kelley, Joanna, Rhys and I all made green-tea soap which was pretty simple (you melt the soap base and add green tea powder) but a lot of fun. It felt like being back in chemistry class at school! Finally we took a tour of the tea farm, which is absolutely beautiul, before heading home again.
All-in-all about 130 people turned up, about half of whom were seekers. We had an absolutely wonderful day, and all the feedback I've heard was positive. God's been so good to us, and the outing was such an encouragement to us as we kick off a new season of 3E Alpha. Please pray that all those who participated in the trip join us for the Alpha course proper and come to know Jesus as their Lord, Saviour and the best, most faithful, kind and loving friend they'll ever have! Our God is amazing!
